Senior System Administrator
Position Purpose
Under the direction of the IT Manager, the Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for providing technical support and ensuring high system availability to support business-critical applications through best-in-class design, architecture, and operations.
Essential Functions
- Performs the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of networked Windows, Linux, or UNIX operating systems
- Creates network user accounts, user environments, directory structures, rights and security for accounts, and other applications requiring login credentials
- Supports Company networks, servers, storage, printers, and workstations to maximize IT support and provide appropriate security, integrity, and availability
- Supports Company backup, restore, and Disaster Recovery systems to manage system availability and Recovery Point/Time Objectives
- Installs, configures, tests, and documents all computing hardware and software systems Company-wide
- Supports the Company's IT projects, coordinating all phases from requirements analysis to evolution following defined Standard Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes
- Processes incoming requests to the IT Help Desk, and provides courteous, timely, and effective resolution of customer issues
- Proactively monitors system alerts and system performance
- Performs basic engineering work concerned with the analysis, planning, designing, evaluating, selecting, administering, and upgrading of Storage Area Network systems
- Recommends and supports the acquisition of hardware, software, and monitoring/support tools and utilities as needed
- Assures compliance with applicable corporate and legal standards
- Acts as liaison between the Company, vendors, and consultants
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as necessary
- Assists with audits and takes on additional responsibilities as necessary
- Flexible/non-traditional schedule may be required, and some travel
- Performs other necessary functions as assigned
Qualifications Preferred
Knowledge
- BS in Computer Science, MIS, or related field
- 5-7 years of experience in the IT field
- 3-5 years of UNIX/Linux and SAN administration experience, plus 2 years of technical support in a team environment, including customer service experience
- Thorough understanding of server, storage, and networking hardware
- Basic understanding of IT Service/Operations Management best practices
- Basic understanding of Windows Server and Workstation operating systems
- Experience with Change Management, Release Management, Incident & Problem Management, Availability Management, Capacity Management, Monitoring & Event Management, Batch Management, and IT Service Level Management
- Sufficient experience with the Microsoft Office suite
